MARKET REPORT FOR AUGUST

August is a wonderful month for fresh produce, including British beans and courgettes, cobnuts, French figs, Coco de Paimpol, Mara de Bois, prickly pears and more. It looks like it is going to be a strong season for English apples, too, with the early varieties a few weeks ahead of normal. It’s coming to the end for apricots and English peas.

The delicate Mirabelle plum is highly prized in France. Reine Claude (a.k.a greengage) also available, along with early British plums such as Opal and Jubilee.

After Prima grape comes Muscat, the superlative French grape with an appellation d’origine contrôlée. Italian Messina grapes also coming through.

Stunning brassicas coming in from our grower Ben on the Isle of Wight, including Romanesco, Cavolo and white summer cauliflowers.

Super fine beans that add a classy touch to any plate. Yellow beans from the Loire are also available.

Petit Violet 'chokes from Brittany. Growers have been struggling with the intense heat but decent crops still coming through …
